Chittorgarh fort near Gambheri river is located on an elevated hill of 180m covering a total area of 700 acres was built in the 7th Century and has witnessed three bloody battles. Chittorgarh  is 115kms east to Udaipur and has witnessed heroism by soldiers and Johar (mass self-immolation) by its women folk rather than submitting themselves to the enemy.

 

It has Vijay Stambh (Victory Tower) symbolizing victory is a marvel monument with circular stairs and 157 steps. Apart from various palaces inside of the fort comprises of several temples such as Sammidheshwara, Jain, Kalika Mata, Neelkanth Mahadev,Meerabai and Kumbha Shyam Temples.

 

The folklore of the queen Padmini’s Johar and Meerabai’s Krishna devotion is told many times over through the story of Chittorgarh. A do not miss, must visit destination if you are fond of valor.
