Udaipur

Udaipur popularly known as the City of lakes is gateway to Rajasthan from the south and is second most frequently visited tourist destination of the desert state. The pristine white marble palaces, beautifully gardens and the numerous lakes make Udaipur seem like a mirage and a magnificent oasis.
 

The City of Dawn/The Venice of the East is surrounded by the Aravali mountain range and is a brilliant kaleidoscope of narrow lanes flanked by bright stalls, gardens, lakes, palaces and temples. It is the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar. The kingdom of Mewar with which many legends of bravery are associated is considered the most respectable of all Rajput princely states in Rajasthan.

 

The Rulers of Mewar are still remembered for their bravery, chivalry and diehard courage they showed for protecting their motherland from the Mughals and other external invaders. Udaipur's beauty and its remarkable past blossoms in the heart of the visitors for a long time. The places worth visiting in the city of Udaipur include City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon ki Bari, Doodh Talai near Pichola lake, the Fatehsagar, the Gangaur Ghat, 4000 years old Ahar Civilisation Museum and many other attractions showcasing local culture and heritage.

Kumbhalgarh

Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th Century by Maharana Kumbha lies in the Rajasamand District and is about 64kms to north of Udaipur City. The fort provides a panoramic view of the downtown and has a Badal Mahal (Cloud Palace) overlooking the entire old city area.It also has many temples inside the most prominent being the Shiv Temple.

 

Kumbhalgarh is the birth place of Maharana Pratap the famous king of Mewar who is regarded as the greatest warrior of thr Rajputana. The ravines of the fort offers a chance to explore and spend a pleasurable evening while appreciating the Mewar legacy with much awe and wonder.

Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh fort near Gambheri river is located on an elevated hill of 180m covering a total area of 700 acres was built in the 7th Century and has witnessed three bloody battles. Chittorgarh  is 115kms east to Udaipur and has witnessed heroism by soldiers and Johar (mass self-immolation) by its women folk rather than submitting themselves to the enemy.

 

It has Vijay Stambh (Victory Tower) symbolizing victory is a marvel monument with circular stairs and 157 steps. Apart from various palaces inside of the fort comprises of several temples such as Sammidheshwara, Jain, Kalika Mata, Neelkanth Mahadev,Meerabai and Kumbha Shyam Temples.

 

The folklore of the queen Padmini’s Johar and Meerabai’s Krishna devotion is told many times over through the story of Chittorgarh. A do not miss, must visit destination if you are fond of valor.
